Everywhere in the world, people ask: “Why am I here? What is the purpose of my life?” In South Asia, whether in the rush of Mumbai or in a quiet village, this question touches every heart. A young engineer in Bangalore once said, “I achieved everything I wanted, but I still feel something is missing.” Many South Asians abroad share the same feeling — working long hours, providing for family, yet lying awake at night asking, “Is this all there is?”

The Common Paths People Take

People often try to fill the emptiness inside in different ways:

  • Career and Success – Achievements bring respect, but restlessness often follows.
  • Family and Relationships – Honoring parents, getting married and raising children are good, but seasons change, relationships can waver, and loneliness can return.
  • Wealth and Comfort – A house, gold, and security are valued, but these can vanish quickly.
  • Religion and Good Works – Many perform rituals, give to charity, or fast to please God. These acts show a longing for God, yet they often leave the question: “Have I done enough?”

Why These Paths Often Leave Us Empty

All these things are temporary. Jobs end. Health fails. Wealth disappears. Relationships can break. If our purpose rests only on these, then our peace and joy will rise and fall with them. That is why even the most successful people sometimes confess to feeling empty inside.

The Bible’s Perspective: A Deeper Longing

The Bible explains why we long for something more. In one part of the Bible, in Ecclesiastes 3:11 it says: “He has set eternity in the human heart.” God has placed within us a sense of “Mukti” — a desire for freedom and everlasting peace “shanti.” In another book of the Bible called Isaiah, we see in 43:7 it says we were created for God’s glory. Our greatest purpose is to know God, love Him, and reflect His character. Anything else is secondary.

The Problem That Separates Us

If God made us for Himself, why do so many feel far from Him? The Bible says it is because of sin — our pride, selfishness, lies, greed, and disobedience (Isaiah 59:2, Romans 3:23). Sin is not only breaking rules; it is choosing our own way instead of God’s way. This is why rituals, success, and even good works cannot give us lasting peace.

The Good News: Jesus Restores Our Purpose

God did not leave us in this hopeless state. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue us. Jesus lived without sin, showed compassion, and gave His life on the cross for our sins. Three days later, He rose again, proving His power over sin and death.

When you trust in Jesus:

  • Your sins are forgiven and your relationship with God is restored (Romans 5:1).
  • You receive a new identity as God’s child (John 1:12).
  • Your life gains eternal purpose — everything can now bring glory to God (1 Corinthians 10:31).

How This Changes Daily Life

  • In Work – Your job becomes more than income; it becomes service to God and others.
  • In Family – Love and forgiveness replace anger and our love for one another glorifies God.
  • In Community – You can use your gifts and resources to bless others and point them to Jesus.
  • In Hard Times – Even suffering has meaning, because God uses it to shape your character and hope.

A Personal Invitation

If you have been searching for meaning and still feel empty, Jesus invites you to find your true purpose in Him. He says in the Bible, in the book of Matthew 11:28: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

You can begin right now by:
     1. Admitting to God that you have sinned.
     2. Believing that Jesus died and rose again for you.
     3. Inviting Him into your life as Lord and Savior.

This is not the end but the beginning of a new journey — a life filled with purpose, peace, and eternal hope.
